Confessions of an Online Bagpipe Teacher - Part 3 - I did not win 19 Gold Medals before I turned 30.

I have many peers in the piping world, many of whom have pursued a life of top playing, and fared extremely well for themselves! I dabbled in high-level solo piping myself (I won the "B grade" Strathspey Reel contest at Oban in 2004, and I have taken five top-6 prizes in the Silver Medal at Oban and Inverness).

But, to be honest, I burned out in the solo scene. I was simply not willing to practice countless more hours and invest MANY thousands more dollars on the hope that panels of judges would enjoy my music!
